INDIAN SCHOOL SYSTEM By Shalini, Class X, St. Mary’s High School
A child of three can be admitted in Nursery class. She then studies L.K.G., U.K.G. and starts regular school of class 1 to X, which is the school final examination. On the basis of themarks obtained in the Board Exam i.e., class X. she gets a seat in college.
Many children do schooling in English But there are Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Schools also. As there are many languages spoken in India Children have the option to study in the language of their choice. The usual school timings are from 9 A.M to 3 P.M. with one hour lunch break from 12.30 P.M. to 1.30 P.M. The school is closed on 2nd Saturday and on all Sundays and festival holidays. The subjects taught are Science, Social Studies, Maths, English, Hindi (National Language) and one state language which is Telugu in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.
Every three months there are examination 1st Term, 2nd Term, 3rd Term and the final exam at the end of each year. The accademic year starts in June and ends in April. The schools close for summer vacation in May. In schools there are special periods of moral science, Library, Art and Craft and Drill and Sports Competitions are conducted and prizes are given to the winners. Inter school competitions are also conducted.
Every school has a uniform; White Uniform is worn once a week. Once a year Annual Day is celebrated. The children entertain their parents with a colorful cultural programme. Prizes are given to those who excel in academics and sports.
